Regain Your CoreĀ® Coaching: Understanding the Difference Between Therapy and Coaching

Ā

As you explore working together, it’s important that you know how I support you and where my role begins and ends.

Therapy vs. coaching

Therapy is a healthcare service focused on emotional and psychological healing.Ā A therapist:

  • Works with your past and present, including trauma, chronic stress, and mental health concerns
  • Helps you understand and process deep emotional patterns and long-standing pain
  • Can diagnose and treat mental health conditions and coordinate with other healthcare providers
  • Is licensed and follows strict professional and legal standards of care

Therapy is a better fit if your main need is healing from trauma, managing significant symptoms or conditions, such as anxiety, depression, or PTSD, or getting support with your overall mental health and safety.

HowĀ coaching works

My work within Regain Your Core® is coaching, not therapy. In coaching, I:

  • Focus on where you want to go, rather than doing deep clinical trauma processing
  • Help you clarify your desired outcome and facilitate intentional, meaningful, question-driven conversations to support you in making your desired outcome a reality
  • Help you uncover and amplify your internal and external resources helpful for cultivating change
  • Support you with structure, reflection, and accountability

While I am a licensed clinician, in coaching, I do not diagnose or treat mental health conditions, I do not provide therapy, and I do not offer crisis intervention or emergency mental health services. Coaching is educational, skills-building, and growth-focused. It can complement therapy, but it is not intended to replace it or other mental health or medical care.

If at any point it seems that therapy or another type of clinical support would serve you better, we will discuss that clearly, and I will encourage you to connect with an appropriate provider and provide resources you can explore.
